Toy Story Land: Become the size of a toy & have a blast!
Toy Story Land – Disney Hollywood Studio’s latest addition – was launched in June 2018. The much-anticipated attraction is more than just a ride; it is a land dedicated to all things Toy Story.
As you approach Toy Story Land, you quickly realize that you are entering a whole new world. As Woody greets you at the front entrance, you feel as though you have been turned into the size of a toy. With the larger than life characters, giant footprints, and enormous replicas of your favourite childhood toys, you can’t help but stare at the wonders that surround you. As you look around, you will see lots of green army men marching up and down the street, and you will see Buzz, Woody, and Jessie greeting guests as they stand surrounded by giant Tinker toys. Disney has outdone themselves with this area of Hollywood Studios, and they have thought of everything – from the ground to the sky, you will feel like you have been transported directly into one of the Toy Story movies.
Toy Story Land includes three amazing rides, including Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania. When we visited the park in December 2018, by far, the busiest ride was Slinky Dog Dash. You can only book one Fast Pass for any of the Toy Story rides, so we choose to use our Fast Pass on the Slinky Dog Dash. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a Fast Pass until 6:00 p.m., but we didn’t care; it was going to be worth the wait.
We knew that the rides in Toy Story Land would be the busiest, so our strategy was to head to Toy Story Land first (as soon as the park opened) and try to ride Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers. By the time we arrived in Toy Story Land, the line for Slinky Dog Dash was already a 60-minute wait. We were relaxed, though, because we knew we had that ride covered later in the day.
We choose to line up for Toy Story Mania. We have been on that ride many times in the past, and we knew that after Slinky Dog Dash, it would be the next busiest ride. The sign at the front of the line said it would be a 25-minute wait, but it was really no more than a 15-minute wait. We weren’t disappointed. Although the lineup area was greatly improved with the work completed for the new Toy Story Land, the ride itself was the same amazing ride that we also enjoyed. If you haven’t been on Toy Story Mania, it is a fun carnival and arcade type of experience. You wear 3-D glasses, and you launch virtual balls at a variety of targets. It is always a lot of laughs as you compete against your family and friends.
Next, we headed to the new Alien Swirling Saucer. To be honest, we were planning on skipping that ride because it looked like it would be the same experience as the Mad Tea Party. Since there was only a 20-minute wait and we had some time until our 10:30 Tower of Terror Fast Pass, we decided to give it a go. Alien Swirling Saucers isn’t just another spinning cup ride. It is your opportunity to ride your own rocket ship as you race and swirl around – never knowing which way you will go next. It was a blast!
All day, we waited in anticipation of Slinky Dog Dash. This ride is a wild, but family friendly-roller coaster where you actually get to ride Slinky Dog as he whips up and down and all around. This ride was full of screams and laughs. We loved it! It has now become one of our families favourite rides.
Toy Story Land also includes a new restaurant called Woody’s Lunch Box, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From hearty breakfast bowls to S’mores French Toast to Grilled Cheese to a Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunchbox Tart, you can enjoy your childhood favorites.
While it can feel like there isn’t a lot to do in Hollywood Studios, the new Toy Story Land makes this a can’t-be missed park. Your family – young and old – will love the magic of Toy Story. Don’t miss it!
Happy Planning!
